MUSIC RELATED ACTIVITIES
Band *
Sponsor: Troy Cronkhite – tdcronkhite@spsmail.org
• Flag Corps – Performs with marching band; promotes school spirit. Anyone can tryout.
• Jazz Ensemble – An auditioned group that travels playing various styles of jazz ensemble literature. Must be currently enrolled in band or orchestra, unless playing the guitar. Auditions in early November.
• Marching Band – The most visible & active band ensemble at GHS, the Falcon PRIDE Marching Band, provides entertainment at all home football games. They travel the area for competitions & participate in local parades. Must be in Symphonic or Concert Band to participate unless you are in Color Guard. Rehearsals may begin in July, and the season lasts through October.
• Winter Guard – An indoor performance group. Members learn a choreographed flag routine to execute at different competitions around the state. Anyone is eligible to try out in November. The season lasts through the end of April.
Choir *

An elective course that provides advanced training in large choral work & individual improvement of one tone quality, blend, and diction. The group performs in several school events and activities outside of the usual class time. Teacher approval is required.
• Chamber Choir – This is an auditioned mixed-voiced ensemble for Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors who perform advanced literature. This choir will travel and compete for contest.
• Advanced Treble – This is a non-auditioned upper-class soprano/alto ensemble. This choir will travel and compete for contest. This class is for juniors and seniors who’ve completed Chorus II.
• Tenor/Bass Choir – This is a non-auditioned Tenor/Bass ensemble. This class is open for any sophomore, junior, or senior who wants to take a choir class without prior experience.
Orchestra *

An elective course offered for freshmen and advanced students who play string instruments. Gives opportunity to perform and enjoy many different types of music, from classical to jazz to classic rock.

Students in the CFA Academy have the opportunity to grow their leadership skills while serving the school and community. Our group joins schools across 46 states who are dedicated to making an Impact Through Action. Students complete Leader Labs and then utilize what they’ve learned to complete meaningful community service projects. Our local Chick-fil-A on south Glenstone sponsors the academy each year and 30 students are selected from GHS to participate. The applications for the academy will be shared on CANVAS StudentNOW in the early fall.
